After leaving the butoh group Toho Yoso Kai in 1982, he became a solo butoh dancer and created many works. He has collaborated with many artists, and has performed with Noh, Kyogen, Jiuta-mai, Bunraku, and other classical performing arts.
He has been invited to open the Lyon Biennale Dance Festival, said to be the largest of its kind in the world, and has given numerous performances abroad.
He is currently practicing Butoh dance as Anti-Butoh at his studio, Space ALS-D in Kyoto.
